The Coordinator of International Human Rights Advocacy and Awareness Center (IHRACC) in Katsina State, Dr. Salisu Musa, has reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to addressing injustices and securing the rights of oppressed individuals across various sectors.
Speaking during a public awareness campaign organized to mark the International Human Rights Day on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, Dr. Musa emphasized the importance of standing up for the rights of marginalized groups, including women, children, and the underprivileged. He noted that the campaign aligns with the mission of IHRACC to ensure that every individual’s dignity is upheld and protected.
"This day serves as a global reminder of the need to respect human rights, and we are dedicated to amplifying the voices of those who have suffered injustice," Dr. Musa stated.
The campaign began at the office of the Katsina Magajin Gari and extended through major streets of Katsina metropolis, featuring awareness walks and engagements with the public. Participants, including representatives from various organizations, raised awareness on critical issues such as human trafficking, child abuse, and gender-based violence.
Dr. Musa explained that the campaign highlighted the dangers of human trafficking and other forms of exploitation while urging collective efforts to eliminate these vices. "We aim to educate the public about these violations and ensure that those affected receive justice and support," he added.
The event, which marked the global observance of International Human Rights Day as designated by the United Nations, underscored the significance of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) adopted in 1948. The UDHR serves as a cornerstone for promoting freedom, justice, and equality worldwide.
Organizations and individuals who joined the campaign echoed the need for unity in combating human rights abuses and fostering a society where dignity and equity prevail.
Dr. Musa concluded by reiterating IHRACC’s commitment to advocating for justice and fairness for all, emphasizing that human rights are fundamental to building a peaceful and inclusive society.
